I recently went on a trip I have been looking forward to. Fingers crossed I will be starting a new and exciting chapter of my life.
On this trip I had some deep and interesting conversations. One in particular stood out to me and it’s what I’m going to share today.
I don’t know if you’ve all heard the scripture from John that says, ‘ blessed are peacemakers for theirs is the kingdom of God’ ? I have read this a couple of times and probably heard some summons preached on this. But someone in our group said something that was totally a new revelation to me.
She said, isn’t it funny how sometimes we think we are peacemakers yet to someone else we might be the opposite! This statement reminded of something that I have been thinking about. Single sided stories. Often times we look at situation through our lense, our perspective , and never once try to actually listen to the other person.
I’m so guilty of this. I think most of the when I have had an enlightening I make it my duty to make everyone( key word being ‘make’) see the same. And what this usually this results into not truly listening to them because I’m too busy forcing my idea on them. Which ends up creating very unproductive arguments. No one learns from arguing especially when it’s just meant to degrade or undermine the other person’s intellect.

For one to be a peacemaker, you also need the ability to listen, to understand where the other person is coming from. And most importantly, not to force your idea on someone. Peace making isn’t about you, it’s about the other person.
Love. Emillie
